Graduate Assistant - Health Education
Start Date - Summer 2016
Part-Time - Year Round - 20 Hours Per Week
The student must be enrolled full-time during the Fall and Spring Semesters.

Summary of Duties:
The Graduate Assistant for Health Education Initiative assists in the development of resources, materials, and programs to fulfill the University Life Division's strategic plans for health education, and collaborates in all other University Life activities and partnerships as a member of the University Life Division Team.
- Research and develop resources and materials to support the implementation of A Healthier U and related activities, particularly those centering on the promotion of only legal and responsible uses of alcohol and other drugs and on awareness about and avoidance of sexual misconduct.
- Develop and conduct campus programming cantering on health and health issues, with particular emphasis on the promotion of healthy lifestyles among our students and other members of the University community.
- Provide administrative support to the Department of Health Services as needed.
- Support student empowerment, working with student leaders to organize and initiate a variety of activities and events that will strengthen their commitments to health and healthy lifestyles, and to assist in continued development of a peer health education program.
- Produce periodic newsletters on varied health topics.
- Serve on specific committees and duties as assigned by the Vice President for University Life.
- Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.
Principal Internal Working Relationships: Health Services staff, University Life Division, Athletics and Recreation, related academic programs and student organizations, Students, Faculty, and extradivisional staff, as appropriate.
External Working Relationships: American College Health Association, Berks Women in Crisis, Caron Foundation, Council on Chemical Abuse, Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and others.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related field and current enrollment in an Alvernia graduate program.
- Knowledge of and ability to promote student health.
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage time, and multitask appropriately.
- Ability to function autonomously and as a member of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to role model appropriate behavior.
- Proficience in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with learning other software.
- Maintain a 3.0 Cumulative GPA in graduate education at Alvernia University.
- Flexible schedule to allow for frequent evening/weekend work.
- Collaborative working style.
