Prior to joining Alvernia College in 2004, Mary Schreiner worked as a professional in public schools for 20 years, as a special education teacher and administrator. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled "Goal Origin and Strategy Instruction: Effects on Goal Success of Pre-adolescents with Disabilities."

Expertise includes meaningful curriculum and effective instruction of students with disabilities, behavior intervention, and transition to adult life. Research interest and volunteer work address self-determination and self-advocacy for persons with disabilities.
