Reading Collegiate Scholars Program Manager

Job Summary:

The Reading Collegiate Scholars Program Manager (RCSPM) is Alvernia University’s designated staff member to manage the Reading Collegiate Scholars Program. The RCSPM directs and oversees the RCSP project including coordinating College Readiness programming at Reading High and Intermediate High Schools, and supporting Alvernia Students who graduated from Reading High School, excepting those who have received RCSP Scholarship funding.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate College Readiness Programming at Reading High School, Reading Intermediate High School, Olivet Boys and Girls Club, and with other Reading area schools as needed. This will include supervising work-study placements and volunteers, and working closely with Reading School District Staff. It is assumed that the RCSPM will devote not less than 75% of his or her time to supporting High School Students. During the academic year, the RCSPM will spend between 20 and 30 hours per week in these locations
  • College Readiness Programming will specifically include assisting with college selection and application, academic preparation and working with families to understand various college financing strategies
  • Coordinate the College success component of the RCSP program by providing support to Alvernia students who come from Reading High, excepting those who receive RCSP scholarship funding. This will include offering special programming and advising to students, identifying and referring students for supports offered by others when necessary, and otherwise supporting students throughout their academic careers and helping students navigate college life successfully
  • Manage external funding and prepare program reports as required by funding sources to evaluate progress, identify problems, and maintain regular communication with funders. Actively cooperate with the Advancement Office to generate external sources of financial support for the program. Prepare and conduct presentations in a variety of external settings, including for recruitment or funding purposes
  • Working with the Admissions Department, make recommendations regarding applicants for admission to the RCSP program and for RCSP scholarship funding
  • Conduct or sponsor workshops for students on off-campus study opportunities, student internship and research opportunities, applications for financial aid, etiquette and health and wellness training and other needs as identified
  • Prepare annual program budget; monitor revenues and expenditures to maintain fiscal control
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate program volunteers and work-study staff to ensure effective program operations
  • Represent program in community through presentations, affiliations, participation in meetings and conferences to increase viability of the program, expand base of knowledge, and recruit volunteers
  • Establish long range goals and objectives for program to create vision and provide programmatic and strategic leadership for RCSP
  • Provide periodic reports on the progress of the scholars, identify emerging trends and need and help develop strategies to address these concerns, periodically convene representatives of campus agencies and offices to review program
  • Support other Holleran Center Initiatives as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director, including University-Wide Days of Service, Service Activities, Marketing or Development Activities, Community Partner events, Commencement, other HCCGE programs, or other activities as needed. This job may specifically include evening or weekend work.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on University marketing and web-based strategies for RCSP
  • Collaborate on researching and applying for various grants or funding requests related to RCSP
  • Represents the Holleran Center for Community Engagement on committees and events as designated or approved by the Director
  • Represents the University on matters related to the Reading Collegiate Scholars, including those requested by the Office of the President and the Admissions and Advancement Offices.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University
  • Bachelor’s Degree and Driver’s License required
  • Excellent writing, public speaking and proven PC skills
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously, independently and as part of a team, while maintaining positive relationships with faculty, staff, students and community partners
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds or more.
