Customer Service Representative

Job Summary:

This position provides direct assistance to students and families regarding student account detail. Must be able to fully explain account entries related to tuition, fees and financial aid elements.  A strong understanding of the higher education process is required.  Accounts receivable functions such as entering student payments in daily cash receipts and processing credit card payments must be performed daily. 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for notifying current and past students of financial obligations.
  • Prepare invoices for government organizations as well as local partnership programs.
  • Process ACH transactions.
  • Process daily settlements from online payment vendor.
  • Maintain and update student accounts eligible for employer reimbursement tuition deferments.
  • Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepare daily assessments and reconcile daily cash receipts.
  • Generate & publish weekly invoices.
  • Maintain correspondence via Student Billing email account.
  • Perform other services deemed reasonable by the director.



  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong computer skills required: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access.
  • Accounting knowledge and previous collection experience preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
  • Occasional evening & weekends required.
  • Some travel to satellite campuses required.
  • Ability to work in noisy and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well with others.
