Certification Coordinator - Special Education Department
Summary of Duties:
The incumbent in this position works in congruence with the Education Faculty to coordinate the matriculation of students through the assessment levels toward certification with the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
- Provide initial advising to students relative to specific education programs and progression plans.
- Track student progression qualifications and coordinate interventions.
- Maintain expertise in legal and regulatory issues surrounding teacher certification.
- Create reports regarding issues of certification, State approval, accreditation and enrollment statistics.
- Work with faculty to create policies for teacher candidate advisement and maintain Advisement Handbook for all primary, secondary and certification programs.
- Evaluate transcripts for endorsement and certification issues; prepare and process Pennsylvania certification paperwork for all graduate and undergraduate certification programs.
- Work with certification offices from other states on reciprocity and verification of program completion for teacher candidates.
- Maintain currency in certification literature and regulations.
- Participate in regional, State and/or Federal meetings related to certification issues.
- Prepare all State and Federal reports and coordinate on-site visits.
- As the campus expert, respond to daily communication regarding certification information to all internal and external constituencies, including alumni.
- Meet with prospective Education student inquiries/candidates and provide initial advisement for students relative to specific educational program. Assign faculty advisors and stay abreast of follow-through.

- - Work with Registrar regarding transcript review and entrance qualifications.
- - Develop initial education program plans.
- Monitor and help resolve advisor-student issues to maintain progression standards and academic progression.
- Provide Praxis mentorship and coordinate student interventions.
- Oversee progression standards and assist the Chair in the dismissal of students in issues of academic deficiencies or professional standards violations.
- In conjunction with Alumni Relations, develop procedure to assist alums with processing continuing certification requirements, and other issues related to ongoing and change in certification.
- Oversee the currency of relevant Education Program sections of the University Catalog, marketing materials and website.
- Supervise student employees.
- Other duties as requested.
- Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree; master's degree preferred.
- An educator who underwent the certification process.
- Work experience in the certification process.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to serve as a professional role model for students.
