The Alvernia theater program provides a place for students to express themselves while giving back to the community. Each year, Alvernia’s award-winning theater group presents two full productions. Fall performances celebrate great works of dramatic literature, such as The Shadow, 9 Parts of Desire, The Skin of Our Teeth, and The Good Woman of Setzuan. This fall’s production will be The Feast, based on a 19th Century play written by Alexander Pushkin. Conversely, spring productions showcase a new or classic play. Past spring efforts have included Electra, Romeo and Juliet, The Seagull, the world premiere of Tales of Shoogilly, and Oklahoma!
Alvernia’s student productions are often performed for capacity crowds, and have been received well by the theater community. It is not uncommon for performers to be invited to participate in peer contests, such as the Irene Ryan Scholarship competition.
Alvernia Theater is proud of its history of creating vibrant theater for the Alvernia Community. Visit www.alvernia.edu/arts-culture for the current play listing.
