Banned Books Week is an annual event held during the last week of September; this year it is being held from September 24th thru October 1st. It celebrates the First Amendment and the freedom to read, while highlighting the benefits of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week draws attention to censorship and displays attempted and actual banned books in the United States.
“Intellectual freedom—the freedom to access information and express ideas, even if the information and ideas might be considered unorthodox or unpopular—provides the foundation for Banned Books Week. BBW stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints for all who wish to read and access them.” – American Library AssociationFor more information on Banned Books Week check out the ALA’s website.Start Date: 9/28/2011 3:00 pm
