Flexible and fast 8-week modular systemAlvernia College's Continuing Studies offers flexible scheduling for adult students' busy schedules. We offer six "modules" a year. Each module is seven weeks in length. The evening classes meet two nights a week for 2 1/2 hours. The classes are scheduled on Monday and Wednesday evenings or Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 - 7:50 p.m. or 8:00 - 10:20 p.m. Saturday classes are also available in a semester format. These classes are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., 8:00 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. and 12:40 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Geared to adult learnersAlvernia College's Continuing Studies program offers adults a clear advantage. With courses available throughout the year in a unique 8-week scheduling format, students earn their degrees without making a career of their education. By attending classes evenings or weekends, students are able to complete an associate's degree in two years or a bachelor's degree in four years. Transfer credits can shorten that time even further. Experienced faculty dedicated to teachingThe faculty is as diversified as the various fields of interest in which they are involved. Our instructors share a commitment to the academic and personal well-being of their students. The faculty are qualified professionals who provide you with the knowledge you need to succeed in today's world. Most career-oriented programs engage the services of adjunct faculty. These instructors possess expertise in the professional areas they represent as well as other required academic credentials. In utilizing these professional resources, Alvernia College underscores the importance of practical application of professional skills as well as the understanding of the theoretical basis of the course material. Small class sizeThe average size class consists of approximately 16 students. Having a low student-faculty ratio enables the instructors to know their students on a personal basis and guide them in developing their full potential. The small college environment of Alvernia is conducive to developing rewarding student-faculty and peer relationships. Ease of TransferWith Alvernia College's transfer policy, many courses are accepted from accredited two and four year institutions. Official transcripts should be sent to the Graduate Center. An unofficial evaluation is given to students who are eager to begin classes, and an official review of the transfer courses is performed by the registrar's office. A grade of a "C" or above may be accepted into the college. Once an official evaluation is completed, the student will receive a copy of his/her curriculum sheet with the courses granted. All transfer students in the bachelor's and associate's degree programs must complete 45 of their last 60 credits at Alvernia College. Additionally, transfer students must complete a minimum of nine credits in their major and six credits in their minor. Personal advising and commitment to customer serviceYour educational needs and questions are addressed by an accessible staff who are committed to helping you reach your goals. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We are available to assist you in planning your academic program by answering any questions that you may have.
