ELEMENTARY EDUCATION
The teacher education program combines a sound liberal arts background,
field work, studies in human growth and development, curriculum, and educational
methods and materials. Approved by the Pennsylvania State Department of
Education, the program prepares students for certification in early childhood,
elementary, and secondary education.
All education students will complete a major with appropriate supportive
courses, field placements, professional seminar, and a student teaching
practicum at two levels on instruction. A student’s progress will
be reviewed by the Education Department at the end of ED 205, when an
overall 2.8 cumulative GPA must be achieved, and at the end of ED 209,
when an overall 3.0 cumulative GPA must be achieved and maintained until
the student teaching practicum. An applicant for the student teaching
assignment must have the approval of the Education Department and the
major department (for secondary education majors) and an overall 3.0 cumulative
GPA. Any student who receives lower than a “C” in an education
course must use the repeat/delete option.
