The social work major focuses on the
study of individual behavior within society. This major
combines the study of human behavior with skills necessary
to effectively work with individuals, families and
groups within organizations, communities and larger
society. Generalist social work practice is a holistic
approach that draws on knowledge, values and skills
to engage in a planned change process. It incorporates
assessing clients' needs, establishing goals and objectives,
and implementation and evaluation of the planned change
process. Issues of gender, ethnicity, culture and at-risk
populations are at the core of social work study.
