A communications degree is widely recognized
as the backbone of a wide variety of fields. In addition
to the traditional arenas of business application and
media, the skills developed in a communication major
are now viewed as vital in law, government, international
relations, health and human and social services, education,
speech and language disorders, arts and entertainment
and information sciences.
Alvernia offers a major in communication that includes a broad spectrum of
courses encompassing journalism, speech, film, and functional and creative
writing for various media applications. Courses are structured to strengthen
and develop practical experience in media-related fields through internships
with local businesses, advertising agencies, and television and radio stations.
English and communication courses may be selected to fulfill liberal arts core
