Assessment
tools are often sought by career decision makers who are in search
of "a test that will tell me what I should be." While
there are many resources to assist in career decision-making,
there is NO ONE TEST that will answer that important, complex
question. There are, however, assessment tools that will help
to reveal patterns of interests, skills, values, aptitudes or
personality traits that impact that decision.
When choosing an assessment tool remember:
-
the purpose and intent of that instrument (what
does it actually measure)
that assessment tools reflect only part of
the picture of the ecision-maker
-
all the information about the decision-maker
needs to be considered
-
that assessment should be undertaken with guidance
from a career development staff member who is equipped to assist
in identifying patterns, pitfalls and plans for next steps.
Collection of assessment possibilities
It is strongly recommended that
assessment be taken with guidance from a career development staff
member. These professionals are equipped to assist decision makers
in identifying patterns, pitfalls and plans for next steps.
