Since graduating from Alvernia, Steven Koons ’05 has provided audit and advisory services across the federal government, including for the $700 billion dollar bailout package for U.S. banks. “These are exciting opportunities, as well as challenging assignments,” he says.
He didn’t know accounting could be so exciting when he first enrolled at Alvernia, but his professors did. “Frankly, they were entertaining,” he says of his professors. “They demonstrated that accounting is the language of business, and if you really want to understand how an organization performs, you need to understand the numbers behind it.”
Not only did Steven’s professors turn him on to accounting, they helped prepare him for graduate school at The Ohio State University, where he graduated at the top of his class. He says, “The strong educational foundation that Alvernia built for me allowed me to excel in graduate school and in my work now.”
