“I always loved school. I still love it,” Knight said. “Every July, I’d be like, ‘It’s time for school supply shopping.’ I was just so anxious to go.”
This year, Ashley couldn’t wait for the first day the school either. She returned to her old school district as the head of her class—the third grade class at Moreland Elementary School.
While at Alvernia, over her summers and breaks, she returned to Carlisle and worked as a classroom assistant in the district’s summer school program and as an instructional assistant at the elementary level. Ashley graduated cum laude with a degree in elementary education in 2010.
Ashley gives Alvernia high marks for preparing her for teaching. “My education at Alvernia helped me with the planning aspect of my job. Being required to write detailed lesson plans has really helped me become familiar with what I need to teach. And I had two really great experiences student teaching in a rural school and an inner-city school. I highly recommend getting experience in both. You never know where the jobs are.”
