Jarred Merriweather ’15 always had a creative flare. When he began his collegiate career at Alvernia he was able to put his artistry to work through graphic design, social media and as the vice president of a new student-run marketing firm.
“I always knew I had an eye for design,” explained Merriweather “The classes and clubs I have been exposed to help guide me to put my work to use. My ultimate goal is to work for a public relations or design firm in a large city such as New York.”
For now, he is gaining the experiences he needs through his internship at the Greater Reading Economic Partnership where he is playing a lead role with their blog posts, Twitter and Facebook accounts. His main ambition is to generate business for the city of Reading and get businesses to return to the Berks County area.
“I declared communication for my major and it has been so useful not only for my internship but for the nonprofit student-run marketing club, The Professional Edge,” he said. “I serve as the vice president of the club. Our objective is to help local non-profits and organizations develop their brands by developing their marketing materials and leveraging social media.”
For now, the lights are looking bright for this Alvernian to break out into the big city!
