When Dimas Cortez ’15 began to volunteer at his local church, working with young children, he didn’t expect to discover his true vocational calling. But it didn’t take long before he realized that a career helping kids was exactly where his heart was leading him. With this desire in mind, he soon enrolled in the Alvernia nursing program to begin pursuit of his dream -- to become a pediatric nurse.
Working closely with other pediatric nurses, while participating in the clinicals that remain key to his training, is giving him the real world, up-close and personal experience he has so longed for. It’s allowing Cortez’ caring nature to come alive.
“I feel like the my nursing training through the Alvernia program gives me the hands on experience I am going to need to succeed in this field one day,” said Cortez. “My supervisors are always looking for input and assistance to make the program ever stronger,” he explains. “It’s so rewarding to help children overcome whatever illness they are battling. That’s the best part.”
