Marketing in the real world
Deven Samson, even as a freshman, was making Alvernia a more dynamic university. During her first year of college, she started a Marketing and Communication Association, which has recently morphed into a student-run agency, Professional Edge Agency, that helps non-profit organizations in the greater Reading area work to develop their marketing presence. She hopes that the agency under her watchful eye, will grow over the next few years and start working with different student groups on campus and more organizations off campus.
Making it all count
When she’s not running around helping non-profits, Deven is doing her part to use her time around campus to help others and keep the Alvernia core values alive and thriving. Whether she’s working an event as a Student Ambassador, giving a tour to a prospective student, putting in hours as a work study, or doing community service with her Affinity Housing Group, A Serving U, Deven is always working to make Alvernia a better place.
When she’s not on campus, Deven keeps on with her marketing and volunteering efforts. She has been giving her time to help out at a preschool near her home since she was fourteen years old, where she says, “The best thing about volunteering at the preschool is just to see the happiness, joy, and carefree attitude of young children.” And if she’s not helping out the kids, Deven is out and about with the Philadelphia Union as a part of Major Molly’s Army, a promotional group for the soccer team.
Looking at the future with a smile
Like many college sophomores, Deven is not quite sure want she wants to do yet. She feels that she’s definitely in the right major, as she reflects on what she enjoys doing and states, “I absolutely love working with the agency. It’s something I’m really passionate about.”
