Powder Coating to Cosmetics

Brandelyn Rightnour ’14 was always interested in mixing and developing materials, especially when it came to cosmetics. But it was through a job shadowing experience with the Food & Drug Administration, coordinated by Alvernia’s business department, that she discovered her interests lie in the actual development of products more than the business of selling them.

“I was always fascinated with how items are developed and that eventually led me to become a chemistry major,” explains Rightnour. “Alvernia guided me to an internship with Akzo Nobel where I work as a lab technician, developing powder coatings for cars. Through that experience, I’ve realized I want my future to be in cosmetics.”

For now, everyday for Rightnour is a new experience filled with creating new formulas and creations. But she doesn’t want it to end there. “I would love to be able to develop my own cosmetic brand that contains only animal-free tested products.”
