Deborah Greenawald

Debbie Greenawald grew up in Harrisburg but has lots of Berks County roots...her family says that they can’t go anywhere without discovering someone she knows or is related to! She joined the Alvernia family in 2004 and is an Assistant Professor in the Nursing Department, where she teaches Fundamentals, Clinical Education for Psych/Mental Health, Leadership/Ethics, and special topics in School Nursing. She graduated from Bucknell University in 1980 with a degree in Music Education and vocal performance, and after a 7-year tour with the United States Navy Band, returned to George Mason University to earn a BS in Nursing as part of a special-pathway for career changers. Having lived in the Reading area since 1988, Debbie worked in clinical nursing in women’s health, outpatient psych/mental health, and then for 10 years as a certified school nurse in a large suburban high school. She holds an MSN in Community Based Nursing from Widener University, where she is currently completing doctoral studies in nursing education, focusing on alternate teaching-learning strategies for undergraduate nursing students. Professor Greenawald’s “alter ego” is as the vocalist for the Ringgold Band. She is active in her UCC congregation, especially in projects related to justice and peace ministries.  Debbie has 2 school-age children, who, along with her husband, join her in hiking, traveling, and many other adventures.

She spends every Saturday morning volunteering at the recycle center in Pottstown , and her personal mission is to spread environmental awareness. She is also the NCAA Faculty Athletics Rep, and she may be the Crusaders' noisiest fan.
