Decision Day (Accepted Students Day)

What's up everybody?

One thing about Spring Semester, despite how quickly it goes by, is that there are so many things to do. This week is when everyone pick where they will be living next year (well this is what the residents have to do). Residents need to have paid their housing deposits, registered for classes in the fall, and have submitted a return to housing form and a housing application. Besides housing, this week is important because this Saturday is Decision Day (Accepted Students Day). This event marks the last open house for the 2006-2007 academic year. All students who plan to attend Alvernia in the fall will be in coming. When I attended my Accepted Students Day, I had the opportunity to meet so many of my future classmates; it was a phenomenal ice-breaker. I hope to have the opportunity to meet most of you.

Later Everybody.

Sprig Fling

What's up everybody? Spring Break has just come to an end and now I'm back to attending classes and doing work. The band that Alvernia is hosting was announced today. We're having The Starting Line coming on April 28th at 9pm. It was a relief to finally be able to tell people. Being on SGA, I was not permitted to tell anyone until the contract was complete. I hope to see many future students at the events taking place during the course of the weekend. If anyone does decide to come, if you see me, feel free to approach me and introduce yourself. Hope to see everyone there.

Spring Semester

Two weekends ago was our first preview day of the spring semester. I hope that whoever attended this event went home with useful knowledge about Alvernia, and I hope to see a lot of the people I met this fall. Now in our second month of the semester, my classes are going great. The buzz on campus now is finding people who I plan to room with. Three of my friends and I are planning to live in judge hall again. There is a new procedure this year. Now it is based on a lottery selection. Now students can not only pick who they want to live with, but now they can pick which room they want. This is something that has brought a lot of positive feedback within the past two weeks.

SGA is currently working on Spring Fling (a weekend full of various events and attractions for current, past and prospective students). Last year, we had Sugarcult come along with a carnival, drive in movie, field day, laser tag, a trip to the works, plus much more. Hopefully this year will be as successful as last year. I hope to see a lot of prospective students there in order to experience how the students at Alvernia have a good time.

Back on Campus

Classes have begun once again. It feels so good to be back at Alvernia. From the moment that I returned on campus, I felt a sudden excitement because of the impending semester. I was eager to meet my new professors and re-connect with friends that I haven’t seen since last semester. Now with a week of classes behind me, it feels phenomenal to be back in my old schedule.

Finals week!

This is crunch time, that week that every student is anxious about, the final week of classes. Don’t get me wrong, I am ecstatic for the end of the semester; this just means that many students have more than a stack of things to get done before the end of the semester. Many students, myself included, will make great use of our computer lab located in Bernadine Hall, because it is open 24 hours a day. I can't say I’m not worried about next week, I'm more worried about making sure I get everything in to my professors on time so that I can get the grade I deserve. This Friday is Christmas on Campus, we are all very excited and hope it goes well. I got the schedule for my finals, I have two on Monday, one on Friday and I need to have a 6 page paper turned in by noon on Friday as well. So, essentially I have a three day break between finals and I plan to make use of that time, whether it be to write my paper, pack in order to go back to Philly, or spending time with my friends. All I can do is try my best. Take care all.

Thanksgiving break/ end of semester

Wow, what a week it has been. After being away from school for over a week because of personal reasons, I’m desperately trying to catch up. All of my professors have been extremely understanding of my situation; one of the best aspects of this school has to be the relationship that I have formed with my professors. They have made it easier for me to hand in assignments that I have missed. I’m getting ready for Christmas on Campus, where we bring in children from the surrounding neighborhoods and play games and do crafts with them. I’m very eager for this event. Thanksgiving is in two days and I am very excited to go home and spend some much needed time with my family.

About me

Hello, my name is Barry Law. I am currently a sophomore at Alvernia University. My field of study is Biology/Pre-med. I live in Judge Hall, the newest residence hall at Alvernia. The building offers upperclassmen an apartment-style environment. I am involved in many activities on campus. I am the Historian for SGA, Cruse Director (tour guide); I was an OWL for the 06/07 year and plan to take part in that program next year. These activities in addition to my class-assigned work tend to keep me fairly busy. I chose this school because I came from a large school with 3600 kids and I wanted to go to a smaller school, where I knew practically everyone. Hopefully these entries will give you a glimpse into the life of an Alvernia student.
