Campus Activities

The end of the semester is approaching rapidly, which means that Spring Fling is also here! Spring Fling is a weekend where the campus, along with Student Government and Campus Activities Board, plans comedians, novelties, and much much more. The headlining band this year is Starting Line!! Along with Spring Fling, this week is Healthy Choices Week. This week concentrates on making healthy choices instead of going to unhealthy choices, like alcohol. This year we have a dance, Ruthie from the Real World Hawaii, and Elaine Pasqua speaking on alcohol and excess. So as you can see in only two weeks there are so many events going on at Alvernia University, who wouldn't want to get involved!!

Thanks,

Class Selection and Honors Program

After Spring Break it is time for advisement. Once you come to Alvernia you decide a major or if you are undecided you are assigned a faculty member who will steer you in the right direction when it comes to picking your classes. Since most programs have some "wiggle room" you are free to choose the time, day, and professor of your liking. Next semester one of my classes is Honors Thesis, which is a requirement to graduate from the Honors Program. When you are accepted into the Honors program you must complete a few honors classes and write a thesis which you defend at a meeting. It sounds like a lot of work but it is worth it and you end up graduating with honors which is a high honor. If you have any questions about selection of classes or the Honors program please feel free to leave a comment!!

Thanks,

Becoming and RA

I am interviewing to become an R.A... An R.A. is a resident adviser which means I would live in a hall and be able to build community, help any new residents get to know each other and also make your campus experience more enjoyable. This is one of the many tasks that I will be taking on next year. Last year I was an OWL or an Orientation Weekend Leader where I helped the new residents move in, played games, and also ate lunch with the incoming freshmen. So needless to say you will be seeing a lot of me if you decide to come to Alvernia and maybe you will be one of my residents next year!

Thanks

Winter Break is a wonderful time of the year. Unlike in high school you get about 5 weeks to relax and not have the stress of multi tasking between work and school. Instead it is a period of time where you can just kick back and catch up on some sleep or work to make all that money back that you spent on Christmas presents. I, however, decided to stay on campus and work for an office on campus. Now, after the first week of classes, I am back to my old routine of juggling many activities, work, and school tasks. It seems a lot harder than it actually is. I have a very good schedule this semester. One of the classes I am taking is Wellness. It is one of the classes that you are required to take before you can graduate. Basically it is a combination of a gym/health class. So it gives you the opportunity to do yoga, cardio, or lift some weights. I am excited for this semester!

Finals

Finals are a tough time for everyone. Whether you are a 400 level class or in an intro class, finals mean pulling together everything you have learned. Fortunately, since my majors are in the Humanities sometimes I get lucky enough just to have a final paper. Having six classes I have four finals and three papers as well. Finals may mean the end of the semester but it also means that the professors finish up all the material that needs to be covered that semester. This isn't to scare you. Besides finals week comes once a semester and should also be fun. It has not killed anyone yet so it will make you stronger!

Thanksgiving break and end of semester

Thanksgiving weekend means two things, one that we get to go home for four days, which is great for me since I live about three hours away, and two that then end of the semester is coming. The great thing is that winter and the holidays are approaching which means there are tons of festive stuff is going on, here on campus. Plus basketball season is underway, which is great when you are a cheerleader, as I am. As the semester winds down I have one thing on my mind and that is finals. This is a big concern since most finals are worth a good portion of your grade. So for the next two weeks I will be trudging around campus, books piled high, worrying about those last couple of grades! Wish me Luck!

First post!

The past few weeks have been very hectic. Besides handling 6 classes and work cheerleading has just started. Between practice four times a week and work four days a week, this can cause something to be put on the back burner. However, with midterms getting underway there is nothing that can be put away for a rainy day. When I am not doing things for school there is also making times for friends. College gives you a lot of freedom to allot your time in different amounts depending on the week. Some weeks you will study more, others you will have plenty of time to hang out. This week its all about priorities and that means tons of work. But the best thing to look forward to is only a few more weeks until finals! yay!
