Undergraduate Students Seeking Teacher Certification


ALL undergraduate students must complete and pass the Pre-Service Academic Performance Assessment before formal admittance to the Education program.  These tests assess the candidate’s knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics.  Information and registration can be found at the Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests (PECT) website.

Undergraduate students enrolled in the PreK-4 program should complete the PECT: PreK-4 three module assessments before registering for student teaching. All assessments must be passed before the Pennsylvania Department of Education issues a teacher certification.

Undergraduate students enrolled in the PreK-4 and Special Education PreK-8 programs should complete the PECT: PreK-4 and Special Education PreK-8 assessments before registering for student teaching. All assessments must be passed before the Pennsylvania Department of Education issues a teacher certification.

Undergraduate students enrolled in Middle Level programs (4-8) should complete the Middle Level Grades (4-8) Core Assessment (5152) and the Subject Concentration tests for the area they plan to teach before registering for student teaching.

All assessments must be passed before the Pennsylvania Department of Education issues a teacher certification.

Undergraduate students enrolled in Secondary Education programs should complete the Secondary Education Praxis test in the appropriate content area before registering for student teaching. All assessments must be passed before the Pennsylvania Department of Education issues a teacher certification.

Initial application for teacher certification is now completed through the Teacher Information Management System (TIMS) portal on the Pennsylvania Department of Education website.
