Master in Business Administration - Online MBA

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply for my online MBA?

We make it convenient for students by accepting applications for the online MBA program on our website, on the phone or at any of our physical locations. Our main campus in Reading, and our Philadelphia and Pottsville centers all offer a variety of services for students enrolled in our online MBA program. Call or visit any of these locations for more information. All three locations are centrally located and are accessible to many cities in eastern Pennsylvania including Harrisburg, Lancaster, Allentown, Kutztown, and their surrounding suburbs.

How does the quality of the MBA program delivered online compare with the classroom program?

Our MBA courses are taught by accomplished professors who offer the professional experience, academic credentials, and expertise characteristic of Alvernia University faculty. The curriculum integrates Alvernia’s core ethical leadership with timely topics and advanced technology, resulting in a seamless learning process allowing graduate students to turn course content into usable tools and skills for the workplace.

Why learn online rather than attend classes on campus?

Alvernia University offers both in-class and online-delivered MBA programs to meet the needs of all different types of learners. In today’s fast paced world, many working professionals do not have time to come to campus a couple of times a week. Long work hours, family activities, and the cost of commuting are all reasons that graduate students are looking for an online experience.

Many traditional classroom students feel that they could absorb more material, or provide better answers if they had more time. Our MBA program delivered online courses give you that time. You can take your time listening to class lectures, think about discussion questions, see how others have responded, and formulate your own well-thought-out reply, on your own time and in your own space. Relax and learn more.

Will Alvernia’s online diploma differ from the on-campus diploma?

After meeting program completion requirements, MBA program delivered online students earn an Alvernia University degree, with no distinction made between degree requirements met on campus or online.

Am I required to take any courses on campus?

Our MBA program delivered online will have 100% of the instruction completed online.

What kind of course work can I expect?

Students can expect a variety of assignments including examinations, case studies, projects, papers, comprehensive problems, and online discussions to ensure mastery of learning outcomes. You will receive specific instructions on how each assignment is to be submitted. After an assignment has been received, it will be graded, and the feedback will be shared with you. Your instructor may provide feedback via surface mail, e-mail, instant messaging, or an online grade book. Your instructors will notify you of their available times for any questions you have.

May I work at my own pace?

For the most part you will work through the course content at a time and place that are convenient for you. You will be responsible for meeting due dates for activities assigned. Also, sometimes an activity requires that you schedule times for team-based work during the week.

Will I be able to communicate with my instructor and get timely feedback?

Absolutely. You do not have to wait until the next time class meets to ask questions. Individual instructors will each provide information regarding their availabity for answering questions during the course.

What technology will I need to take classes online through Alvernia?

Applicants should possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and should have reliable access to a computer, the Internet, and a fax machine in order to successfully complete the MBA program delivered online. Students are responsible for communications software and internet service. There are both minimum and suggested technical requirements for computer setup. The Blackboard learning management system, where students access their online courses, is accessible through the Alvernia University website.

Do the online students come from any particular geographic area?

Since Alvernia University has a strong, established reputation in the Reading area, the majority of our online MBA students come from the suburbs around Reading. However, the ease of attending class online attracts students from other areas of Pennsylvania and the rest of the United States.
