Bachelor of Arts in Advanced Professional Studies

Choose our Advanced Professional Studies major to design your own program of study to fit your educational, professional and personal goals. You decide on a theme and with the direction of a faculty advisor, you may choose from different disciplines to create the best learning experience that matches your interests and aspirations.

Flexibility

This major is an open and flexible program centered on the university’s core curriculum. You will benefit from the foundational courses important for all students, but also have the freedom to construct your own study plan.

This major may be attractive to a student whose interests cross traditional departmental lines and for whom a joint major is not a satisfactory option. The degree program offers flexibility, but also challenges the student to demonstrate the study plan’s relevance to academic goals and career interests.

Approval of the Study Plan

Students will submit a rationale for their desired program of study – and the courses that will constitute it – to the Dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies. This must be done before they earn 60 credits. Following approval from the Dean, each student will then be assigned an advisor from Graduate and Continuing Studies.

Students should declare their intention to pursue the Advanced Professional Studies major to the Registrar.

Curriculum Overview

Liberal Arts Core (54/55 credits)
Major Requirements (42 credits)
General Elective Requirements (__ credits)

To attain a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 18 credits must be from 300- and 400-level courses. Students will choose a maximum of two concentrations, as indicated in their approved study plan.

Career Success

The career fields most suitable for the Advanced Professional Studies major will be based on the specific course of study. The Career Center is an excellent resource for those wishing assistance with resume preparation, interviewing and job searches.
