Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies

The Liberal Studies major provides students the opportunity to self-design a program of study so that they can complete the appropriate coursework to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Whether you are seeking to broaden your intellectual and cultural awareness, prepare for graduate study or seek a new career, the degree completion program offers you both flexibility and academic excellence.

The program is designed primarily for individuals who have taken the majority of coursework needed for a bachelor’s degree. At Alvernia, students will work with an advisor to review which courses are transferable and design a program tailored to their specific professional or intellectual interests.

Prerequisites

Eligible students must transfer at least 90 credits of applicable college work. Up to 75 credit hours may be accepted from regionally accredited community, junior or other two-year colleges. Up to 60 credits could have previously been earned at Alvernia. A minimum of 30 credits need to be at the 300 and 400 levels at Alvernia.

Curriculum Overivew

Students will complete at least 30 Alvernia credit hours in the following ways:

    > by completing 15 credits at the 300 and 400 levels in a Liberal Studies sequence
(Note: the catalog calls this Arts & Sciences sequence)

    > by completing 15 credits at the 300 and 400 levels of a modified Alvernia core to include:

         • Literature (3 credits)
         • Theology (3 credits)
         • Philosophy (3 credits)
