FAQ's

Is there a fee for using the facility?
Alvernia College Learning Center is free to all Alvernia students.

Can I get a tutor for any class?
The Learning Center caters to most classes on a daily basis.  However, if we do not regularly staff a tutor for you class, we will work on finding someone to help you.

I want my professors to know that I am asking for help. How can I make sure they know I came to the LC?
We keep records of every tutoring session.  If you prefer, we will send a copy of the tutoring session to your professor.

Who comes to the Learning Center?
Everyone!  We have a plethora of students coming in from every major and all degree programs.  We welcome anyone who is seeking assistance in reemphasizing what is taught in class.

What kind of help can I get?
You can choose from three different types of sessions.  You can opt to have a one on one tutoring session, during which a tutor will help explain course concepts.  Group sessions include a tutor and several students to help promote a better understanding of course material.  The final type of session is a workshop; this is where a GA will prepare a mini-lesson on a broad topic (such as time management or writing styles) to help you succeed.

What should I bring with me?
A syllabus, the assignment, any notes you took during the class and your textbook.

Are people going to laugh at me?
You will not be laughed at by anyone.  It is perfectly normal to seek assistance for college level courses.

Is it confidential?
Yes.  Only tutors are allowed to make appointments and the records of the session are not released without the permission of the tutee to even the professors.
