The Freshman Foundations ProgramFreshman Foundations is a one year support program for Alvernia freshmen who, based on their admission profile, demonstrate that they have the potential to succeed in college but also need additional support and structure. Freshman Foundations is not a pre-college or preparatory program but, as the name suggests, a freshman year experience intended to create a strong foundation for success in college. Support comes primarily through regular academic advising and focused attention to study skills. For those students who, based on the results of their placement exams, require basic skills work in reading, writing, or math, support is also built into the curriculum as well. Because students admitted to Alvernia through the Freshman Foundations program are Alvernia freshmen, they will take the majority of their courses with freshmen from across the College. This ensures that they encounter a broad range of faculty and students, develop a realistic sense of the academic standards and expectations at Alvernia, develop independent judgment, and enjoy full membership in the Alvernia community.
