The Alvernian
The English/Communication Department is responsible for The Alvernian, the student newspaper, which is published monthly during the academic year. All students with an interest in writing, photography, and/or marketing are encouraged to contribute to the paper.
Students may take COM 132 Journalism Workshop for one credit (Course may be repeated) or COM 432 Newspaper Production for 3 credits (course may be repeated). Other students may gain credit for community service.
The Alvernian office is located in Bernardine Hall 206. Equipment includes computers, a laser printer, and a scanner. The paper is designed using the Adobe Creative Suite program package and is printed off campus. Working on the student newspaper is an excellent opportunity to become a part of the Alvernia community, hone one's writing skills, and learn desktop publishing. Check out the latest version of The Alvernian online.
The Zephyrus
The Zephyrus is the literary magazine published every spring. It contains original creative work—poetry, fiction, essays, photography, artwork¬—by Alvernia students, staff and faculty. Department faculty serve as advisors and members of Sigma Tau Delta act as editors.
