While we will formally welcome new faculty and staff at the State of the University gathering and celebrate promotions and other honors, let me call attention to new members of our community and recognize several others.

We are pleased to welcome talented new faculty members: Dr. Steven Dougherty, assistant professor of biology; Dr. Ann Marie Kriebel-Gasparro, assistant professor of nursing; Dr. Elena Lawrick, associate professor of education; Dr. Monir Morgan, assistant professor of psychology; Dr. Janet Mutschler, assistant professor of allied health and Patricia Schmehl, professional specialist of nursing.

Our search for a new campus ministry director was successful! Julianne Wallace, most recently assistant director at St. Bonaventure University, joined us earlier this summer.

Deb Schlosser is our first men’s volleyball coach. Most recently she was the assistant men’s volleyball coach at Kean University, where the team advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.

We continue to attract outstanding leaders to serve on Alvernia’s board. New members include Paul Trunk, president of Berk-Tek and vice president and general manager of Nexans LAN Division North America. Also new is Jeanne Savage ’88, who has taught in the Wyomissing School District while serving on various committees at Alvernia. She is a recent recipient of Alvernia’s Ellen Frei Gruber Alumni Award.

Scott Gruber, CEO of Tompkins VIST Bank will be Alvernia’s Expert in Residence this fall, working with our business students and faculty to bring industry best practice to life in classrooms along with real-world examples to underscore important lessons.

New faculty officers for the 2016-2017 academic year are as follows: President Nathan Thomas, Vice-President Christopher Wise, Secretary Carol Schwanger, and Treasurer Louise Fura.

Madison Kleintop has been named Student Government Association president for the 2016-2017 academic year. She is a senior occupational therapy major who has served as a student government senator and association secretary. Other incoming SGA executive board members include Vice President Joshua Harmes (OT), Treasurer Marisa Lombardo (Marketing), Secretary Jenna Harper (OT) and CAB President Lauren Bull (Special Ed w/Early Childhood PreK-4 Cert).
