Community Engagement

Shortly before graduation, Alvernia was honored with Caron Treatment Centers’ Partner in Recovery Award recognizing an organization that has been a significant supporter of Caron’s mission to transform lives impacted by addiction. Caron and Alvernia are long-time allies in treating addiction, and many of Caron’s best counselors are graduates of our behavioral health program. We are also expanding joint educational opportunities for students in recovery, including potential special recovery housing at Alvernia.

Our professional development and continuing education programs are gaining a great deal of interest from the region’s top organizations. We are currently working with East Penn Manufacturing, Brentwood Industries, Cambridge Lee, DSS, Penske Truck Leasing, Service Access Management, the Reading School District and Women2Women, among others.

Thirty students from the Ethics and Community Engagement course accompanied Prof. Josh Hayes, O’Pake Institute Director Dave Myers, and VP for University Life Joe Cicala to AICUP’s annual Student Aid Advocacy Day in Harrisburg. As one of the largest delegations, our students had personal meetings with Sen. Judy Schwank and representatives from the offices of Rep. Tom Caltagirone and Gov. Wolf.
