June Board Meeting

Each June, trustees conduct a two-day retreat on key strategic issues. This year focused on the work of our three board ad-hoc committees (strategy, enrollment and academic infrastructure) with an important session on fundraising priorities. The final session featured presidents from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and Marywood and DeSales Universities who offered engaging discussion on the “Challenges and Opportunities of Catholic Higher Education.”

Beyond completing the annual evaluation of the president, Board actions are limited in June, but trustees did approve the new major in Healthcare Administration and the preliminary board and president’s goals and budget for 2015-2016. The budget includes a tentative compensation increase. Pending successful undergraduate and graduate enrollment projections it will be finalized and announced in the early fall. The budget also includes resources needed to establish the Doctor of Nurse Practitioner program that we anticipate launching in January of 2016 pending final approval of the appropriate governing body.

The board also approved a revised, updated Campus Master Plan and the conceptual plan for a new East Campus, with initial focus on the construction of a Recreation, Wellness and Health Science Complex (the “Plex”). Besides a field house to support student recreation and indoor athletics needs, the Plex will include an academic wing with significant interdisciplinary and general purpose classrooms as well as specialized instructional spaces. The latter will help support the current demand for and expansion of our health science programs, including athletic training, nursing, occupational therapy and physical therapy programs.
