President's Newsletter October 2016

Work continues in developing targeted global study opportunities for our students. This year we have major initiatives in four countries and initial steps in two others. Dean Roth anticipates having at least one lead faculty member designated for each country, while VP Joe Cicala continues to serve as our liaison to the Bernardine Sisters for our Dominican and Brazilian partnership initiatives. Some updates:

Neil Penny, chair of occupational therapy department, will travel to India soon with a faculty cohort sponsored by our study abroad program partner to identify opportunities for healthcare majors at international locations.

Student recruitment began in September for the Sustainable Communities course with travel in May to the Dominican Republic.

A service-learning trip to Brazil is being planned for April, working with the Sisters’ mission and modeled after the Dominican Republic program.

Our partners from Brethren Colleges Abroad (BCA) and the Sacred Heart University-Dingle, Ireland program visited campus this fall to speak with students and faculty about study abroad opportunities.
