Our top annual university awards will be presented at the President’s Dinner later this week. The interfaith trio of Rabbi Brian Michelson, Rev. Philip Rogers, and our own Elsayed Elmarzouky – all founders of A Common Heart – will receive this year’s Franciscan Award, while East Penn Manufacturing will be given the Pro Urbe Award. Kevin DeAcosta ‘00, president of the Highlands at Wyomissing, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award and Mary Lou Kline ‘81, will receive the Ellen Frei Gruber Award.

Ten students have received inaugural Real World Experience Awards. Students were invited to apply for awards of up to $2,000 to defray costs of enrichment experiences such as study away, non-domestic service learning or Alternative Breaks, credit-bearing internships away from Alvernia or home, and undergraduate research. Deadline for the next call for award applications is Oct. 31.

Alvernia received the Best Practices Award for Mission Integration in Student Activities, Leadership, and Orientation by the Association for Student Affairs at Catholic Colleges and Universities. The award was presented at the annual conference to Joe Cicala, Karolina Dreher, Danielle Saad, and Julianne Wallace.

Under Dr. Beth Berret’s leadership, the student chapter of Society for Human Resource Management received a national superior merit award while attending the national SHRM conference in Washington, D.C.

The Athletics Department will induct the class of ’16 into the Hall of Fame during Homecoming Weekend.
