Social media “followers” across Alvernia’s main social media pages have grown to 14,900 — an increase of more than 1,000 in the last three months. Consumer “engagement” is also growing, 60% higher (over the last three months) when compared to 2014.

Social media is also playing a more active role in alumni relations. The number of “likes” on the new Alumni Facebook page has grown to 853 and the number of alumni on our LinkedIn Group page grew 10 percent to 832.

Alvernia psychology majors are completing year-long internships to position them for work in healthcare, education, counseling, marketing, and criminal justice areas. Students this year are interning in a range of settings including Reading Hospital, Threshold Rehabilitation, Treatment Access and Services Center, Oley Valley and Hamburg School Districts, Berks County Adult Probation, Glad Counseling Services and the Salvation Army.

Student Activities and the Student Government Association have teamed up to create a new system to support student engagement. PAX (Promoting Alvernia eXperiences) allows student organizations to engage virtually for membership rosters, budgets, forms and more. PAX (pronounced, “POX”) is Latin for “peace.”

The Education Department is updating its Master’s in Education offerings to include English as a Second Language Specialist post-baccalaureate certification. A trio of post-baccalaureate add-on certifications is designed to meet our community’s needs and includes: Principal, Special Education and the proposed ESL certifications.

The initial phase of the Computer Refresh Program was completed. Over 200 computers were refreshed in the labs and classrooms over the summer. The faculty refresh will be completed in October with staff slated for November.
