Coming Events


The second annual O’Pake Lecture is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., in the McGlinn Center. The lecture will be delivered by retiring U.S. Congressman James Gerlach, who will speak on Compromise, Civility and Public Service.

The O’Pake Institute is hosting its third annual film series, where important topics are brought to the big screen and followed by a panel discussion featuring selected leaders from Berks County. This year’s theme centers on ethical leadership and will continue through April. All showings are free and are held from 6-9 p.m., in the Bernardine Lecture Hall. Coming films include: Doubt (Nov. 17), Mississippi Burning (Jan. 17), Hotel Rwanda (Feb. 12), Bloody Sunday (March 18), and Erin Brockovich (April 21).

Thanksgiving break is fast approaching, Nov. 27- 28. And be sure to mark your calendar for Alvernia’s annual holiday party this year, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, 6 p.m., in the Student Center.

The 2014-15 Performing Arts Series and Miller Gallery boast an exciting program of events throughout the year. Check out all the details at www.alvernia.edu/arts-culture.

Alvernia Theatre will rotate two plays in November. “Low Level Panic” by Clare McIntyre will be performed Nov. 8, 13 and 15 at 8 p.m. “Puppets at the Fairground” by Alexander Blok (with a curtain raiser called “A Merry Death”) will run Nov. 6 and 14 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 9 and 16 at 2 p.m. All shows will be held in Francis Hall Theater.
