Upcoming South Reading Youth Initiative Events

Fall 2010 Programming

The South Reading Youth Initiative, the signature program of the Holleran Center for Community Engagement is pleased to announce that it will now be running after-school programming four days a week.  Programming will run Monday-Thursday from 2:30 - 5:00 pm in Marciano Hall at St. Peters Church on South 5th Street in downtown Reading.  The SRYI is available free of charge to children ages 7 to 14 who live or go to school in South Reading. 

Each day of programming consists of an hour of homework help followed by another activity provided by local community partners.  Alvernia University students are always present in order to help the participants with homework and other activities.


Mondays:      2:30 - 3:30 pm – Homework Help

                      3:30 - 4:00 pm – Snack/*Hot Meal

                      4:00 - 5:45 pm - Travel to Reading Public Museum

Tuesdays:     2:30 - 3:30 pm  - Homework Help

                      3:30 - 4:00 pm – Snack/*Hot Meal

                      4:00 - 5:00 pm - Reading Musical Foundation

Wednesdays: 2:30 - 3:30 pm – Homework Help

                      3:30 - 4:00 pm – Snack/*Hot Meal

                      4:00 - 5:00 pm – Library Visits

Thursdays:     2:30 - 3:30 pm – Homework Help

                      3:30 - 4:00 pm – Snack/*Hot Meal

                      4:00 - 5:00 pm – Activities

Duncan's Corn Maze - Saturday, September 25th

On Saturday, September 25th, the South Reading Youth Initative will travel to Robesonia, PA to visit Duncan's Corn Maze. Participants will navigate the maze with Alvernia University students and have an opportunity to visit a working farm on a hayride. Participants will be picked up at St. Peter's Church at 12:15 pm that day and will return to St. Peter's Church at 4:00 pm. All participants must register by calling Christopher Fake at 610-568-1527 or at christopher.fake@alvernia.edu.
