Our Mission

The Center for Ethics and Leadership at Alvernia University is an interdisciplinary initiative for dialogue on ethics and leadership among members of the Alvernia community; the local regional, and global communities; and colleagues throughout the academy. The Center also seeks to provide expertise in concert with our many communities to promote environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability.

Our Goals

  • Promote a learning community that fosters scholarly work in ethics and leadership.
  • Establish Alvernia as a recognized leader in ethics and leadership education.
  • Facilitate Catholic Social Teaching and interfaith dialogue.
  • Leverage community resources and provide valuable programs and activities to seek greater understanding of ethical dilemmas that challenge our communities.
  • Expand educational opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni, especially collaborative scholarship, service, and dialogue.

Our Strategies

  • Emphasize social justice and service informed by Franciscan values in ethics and leadership education through dialogue with our many communities.
  • Integrate teaching and scholarship into our curriculum for service with our communities to promote environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability.
  • Develop a cadre of experts to provide leadership in efforts with our community partners to sustain our environment and cultures for generations to come.
