Our Mission
The Center for Ethics and Leadership at Alvernia University is an interdisciplinary initiative for dialogue on ethics and leadership among members of the Alvernia community; the local regional, and global communities; and colleagues throughout the academy. The Center also seeks to provide expertise in concert with our many communities to promote environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability.
Our Goals
- Advance Alvernia’s Franciscan identity.
- Promote a learning community that fosters scholarly work in ethics and leadership.
- Establish Alvernia as a recognized leader in ethics and leadership education.
- Facilitate Catholic Social Teaching and interfaith dialogue.
- Leverage community resources and provide valuable programs and activities to seek greater understanding of ethical dilemmas that challenge our communities.
- Expand educational opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni, especially collaborative scholarship, service, and dialogue.
Our Strategies
- Emphasize social justice and service informed by Franciscan values in ethics and leadership education through dialogue with our many communities.
- Integrate teaching and scholarship into our curriculum for service with our communities to promote environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability.
- Develop a cadre of experts to provide leadership in efforts with our community partners to sustain our environment and cultures for generations to come.
