Nursing Education Focus
Program Highlights In Brief
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is offered as a new “blended”
program, designed to harness the best of both online and in-person instruction. Using a Blackboard course management system, more than 30 percent of the program’s instruction will be conducted electronically. Alvernia's Master of Science in Nursing program provides a graduate degree in nursing that prepares professional nurses for a career in nursing education in the academic or practice settings. Our first-rate faculty brings real-world insight into the classroom and is dedicated to sharing their know-how with each student.
Graduates from this program will be able to function as competent nurse educators and have the academic preparation to enter doctoral studies. The MSN program will facilitate a student’s learning through the specialty practice of nursing education in order to fulfill various roles as a nurse educator. Our outstanding simulation laboratories and experience with technology integration will prepare you for cutting-edge, evidenced-based, teaching-learning strategies.
Alvernia understands that today’s nurse educators are required to manifest whole new domains of knowledge and skills including understanding diversity, coping with constant scientific advances, social and market changes.
Academic Quality
Students are admitted to Alvernia and are fully accepted in the Master of Science in Nursing program when the following criteria have been met:
•Successful completion of Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
• Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale in BSN program
• Completion of an undergraduate research course with a grade of “C” or better
• Completion of an undergraduate statistics course with a grade of “C” or better
• Minimum of one (1) year recent relevant practice in nursing
• Completion of graduate entrance application with supporting documentation
