Master of Education
Area of Elective Study: Educational Leadership

Program Highlights In Brief
Alvernia is a Catholic, Franciscan college dedicated to the ideals of service in the helping professions. Our rich heritage of service is rooted in our strong faith which resonates in contemporary ways in campus life and our academic programs. Alvernia’s graduate programs are designed for the focused working professional who places equal value on intellectual achievement and professional growth. Our faculty and staff are committed to teaching, guiding, and supporting our students in all aspects of their experience at Alvernia, from course selection and scheduling, to connecting with peers and colleagues.

The program in urban education leading to a Master of Education degree with an elective study in Educational Leadership explores topics in school leadership such as law, finance, administration, and human resource management. The program gives educators the opportunity to explore the academics behind administration and is an excellent precursor to pursuing an administrative certification. Typically, Master’s coursework can be utilized to fullfill professional training requirements and advance on the salary scale. Students typically complete the entire 33 credits in under two years. However, full-time enrollment can allow students to complete the program in approximately one year. Students are accepted for a period of five years and can choose to pursue their program on a part-time basis. Flexibility of enrollment is a hallmark of Alvernia’s Master of Education Degree.

Academic Quality
Students are admitted to the College and are fully accepted when the following criteria have been met:
     • Successful completion of Bachelor’s Degree
     • Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
     • Completion of graduate entrance application with supporting documentation
